Although it was a couple of years more before the gardens opened to the public, it is probably right to mark that fortunate day in 1990 when Tim and John finally re-opened the door into that lost world.
The rediscovery came 3 years after the first broadcast of the ‘Victorian Kitchen Garden’ and just a year after the ‘Victorian Kitchen’ series. I often wonder whether the outcome might have been different, had interest in walled gardens not already been awakened by the VKG team.
To help things along with 2015’s celebrations, Heligan have already won a couple of gardening ‘gongs’ this year with their ‘Lost and Found’ exhibit: Silver Gilt at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show, and Gold at the Cornwall Garden Society Spring Flower Show.
