It is six years ago today since 'Auntie' Ruth Mott passed away. Almost more difficult to believe is that it was 13 years ago, on 25th July, since Harry Dodson died. Both still loved by fans of 'The Victorian Kitchen Garden', 'The Victorian Kitchen', 'The Victorian Flower Garden' and 'The Wartime Kitchen And Garden'. Time to get the DVD's out, put the kettle on and break open a new packet of biscuits, ready for a quiet evening in.

Hi Vic, I'm curious if you've ever found Alison Arnison appearing in anything else? How her involvement came to be & what became of her? She was such a curious person in the Victorian Kitchen show (not the Kitchen Garden one) and I have wondered ever since. Thanks.

Hi Cal. That's a very good question. I've never heard of he doing anything else, but then I've never gone looking either. I would suspect not, She was a qualified music teacher (piano, I think) at the time of VK. At some point she moved to Canada and had two (maybe 3?) sons. Later, she moved back to the UK, becoming Alison Evans, where she still lives. As for the reason for involvement in VK, I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that she lived near Ruth at that time so, may have already been known to her. Cheers, Vic.

Thanks Vic. I always wonder if the folks who appear in shows like this are changed much by the experience - of living back in time, as it were. For me, just watching the shows themselves has ignited an immense interest, and I find that I see the world a little differently now having seen them. I imagine partaking in the experience would be a revelation indeed. Best, Cal 1/7/2020 12:37:06 am
Hi Cal. Even though Alison was only 'back in time' on shooting days, she does comment (in the last VK episode, I think) about how tough the work was, and how many more aspects/jobs there were to being a kitchenmaid.
